ADS 1278 EVM PDK changes

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS1278, ADS1178, THS4521, OPA1632

Hello,

I recently purchased a ADS1278 EVM PDK  the EVM is Rev E.

Before I purchased I looked at the guide /schematics and thought the board would have 8 input amplifiers allowing +-10V input signal range (or external ref/supply) . This was ideal for my required test application inputs. Unfortunately I was looking at the information for the Rev C EVM which has the +-10V amplifiers but these have been removed from the Rev E board.

Pleas could you help me with the following.....

Please could you provide me with gerber files etc for the latest revision (Rev C i presume?) that still had the eight +-10V buffered inputs.

Do you know where I could acquire a Rev C (or earlier) EVM board?

Eventual  I wish to use the the EVM board on a 5-6K interface board and C6713DSK .... Is there a separate amplifier card which I could plug into the 5-6k interface board which would allow eight +-10V inputs?

Thank you very much for any help,

Best regards,

Grant

  • Hi Grant,

I attached the gerber files for the old ADS1178 board which is the same board as the ADS1278.

Rev E of the board had the OPA1632 op amps removed and replaced with a +5V op amp, the THS4521, in which we had no use for the +/-10V charge pump. Are you using these high voltage supplies to power something else off the board because with Rev. E, you should not need the high voltage supplies?

I can look but do not think that I have any of the older boards around here that I can send.

  • Hello Tony,

    Thank you for your help,

In our application 8 differential input channels operating at +-10 Volts input range would be ideal and would allow me to test right away with the sensors that we will use in the final application. It's possible we we would use an external analog supply rather than the on board +-10 volt one as the guide suggested this might give better noise performance.

If you could find an older +-10V board we could buy I would greatly appreciate it.

If we cant find and older board then  I gather that maybe we could use two  DAPSigCndBrdBPEVM   boards on our 5-6K interface board?

I think we would probably have to provide external supplies and  replace some gain resistors to bring the output signal range of the amplifier(attenuator) down to 2.5 volts+-2.5volts for the ADS1278 board?

Please do let me know if you can find older +-10 Volt ADS 1278EVM cards though as that wuld be ideal,

    Thank you again,

    Best regards

    Grant

  • Hi Grant,

Here, in the factory, we do not have any more of the early revision ADS1278 boards. All of the rebuilds were done with the new revision using the THS4521 requiring only a 5V supply. An external signal conditioning board would probably be your best bet to quickly evaluate the ADS1278 using the EVM. You can bypass the on board THS4521 amplifiers and use drive amps on your external signal conditioning board if you would like.
