Touch Screen with TMS320C5515

Hi all,

We want to use a capacitive touch screen of size 3 - 4" for our project but this is the first time that we will use such a peripheral. We look both for touch panel and controller but cannot find satisfying information. Moreover there is not enough information about programming the controllers. As far as I understand there are some examples with MSP430 (as most of the time), but our DSP chip does not have such a software support or I couldn't manage to find it. The examples are MCU and controller specific which brings us to select our periheral as soon as possible to develop on it. We have EVM 5515 right now and first prototype will be developed over this evaluation module.

Any recommendation or stating point will be appreciated.

    Hello Ekrem,

    TI produces only touch screen controllers (TSCs), but not touch panels. However, we may provide you some suggestions on touch panel manufacturers that work with our TSCs.  

    Up to today, we do not have any capacitive TSC released yet. Based on your simple description, I think our new TSC3060 (sampling now) could be an option for your application. If you are interested in looking into it, please provide us your company info and I can find corresponding TI personal to provide you more info on TI's capacitive touch solutions!

    Our firm is in Ankara, Turkey. We are already in contact with TI representatives but we need more technical information. As you can understand we do not have any experience about TS controllers or touch screens. What we seek for is some guidance with technical information to develop our application. We work in medical field on ECG solutions.

    We can provide you some technical training on our devices and their applications. However, since our capacitive TSC devices are not formally released yet, we can not post the related info now.

    However, because of a certain specific reasons (such as: it is a capacitive TSC, and it has not been released yet), I can not send you anything directly. Our management is working on providing ways (such as a 3rd part local contract) to help, and please allow us some time!

    Does PCAP type of touch panel works with TI resistive touch screen controller?

    Does touch technology matters when it comes to touch screen controller selection?

    Hi Mahesh,

    PCAP and Resistive are two different touch technologies. The panels are not compatible with each other.

    So touch technology does matter. However, TI has a selection of both Resistive and Capacitive Touch Screen Controllers.
