LM50B's Temperature sensor reference?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM50

Hi

I'd like to use LM50B for Temperature sensor..

But I couldn't know where is the reference point of LM50B ?

regarding LM50B's sensing Temperatuer,

what is the reference point whether it is air Temp? or not  GND PIN ?

Thanks,

Eric

  • Hi Eric,

Since this part is a temperature sensor device, in the future, please post your question in Temperature Sensors so that we can easily monitor your post.

Please refer to the LM50 datasheet section 1.0 for more details. Usually, for the analog temperature sensor, LM50’s leads control the thermal path. Let’s say if you mount the sensor on the board, the LM50 will usually measure the board temperature. Unless, the board and the air are at different temperatures, then things get more complicated.

We did an experiment as shown attached file. If the device is isolated from the board, then a clip-on heatsink can bring the sensor’s temperature close to ambient with a metal can package. If it is a plastic package, then it needs to be mounted on a small “sub-board”.

Please let me know if you have any further questions.
