ADS1292 overclocking - implications for SPI clock speed?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS1292

Hi, wanting to slightly overclock (524.288kHz) ADS1292 to achieve a particular sampling rate. Does this allow me to run the SPI clock at 1.024MHz? Or does it need to be 2x 524kHz?  I know SPI clock speed can't be more than 2x system clock.

tks very much, bruce

  • Hi Bruce,

The SCLK frequency limits for the ADS1292 can be a little confusing when first reading the data sheet. The SCLK limitation for reading back data is different than the SCLK speed limitation when writing to and reading back from the registers. When reading and writing to registers, the maximum SCLK frequency can be 2X the master clock frequency. You can write to the device at slower SCLK frequencies without a problem but the max is master clock set. Reading back data from the converter can be accomplished at speeds as high as 20MHz.

  • Hello,

Can you point me to the info regarding ADC 1292 SPI read speed 20MHz ?

    Thank you,

  • Hi Igal,

See the tSCLK spec period is 50ns on page 10 of the datasheet. Depending on the DVDD supply voltage, the max SCLK speed will vary.

    Thanks,
