ADS1298 - Rerouting the RLD Signal

Hello to everybody,

i have a question on "Rerouting The Right Leg Drive Signal".

I have closed the loop as seen in figure 51 in the datasheet. Then i connected the RLD Electrode to the IN2P Pin.

Now i think i only have to set the MUX2[2:0] = 110 in the CH2SET Register and set the RLD2P Bit in the RLD_SENSP Register to zero.

Is that right or are there more necessary settings?

Regards,

Sebastian

  • Sebastian,

Not sure on exactly what you are trying to do or measure. Any additional information would be great to help us understand the application.

We show Figure 51 to demonstrate using one of the electrodes as the driver to bias the body. Essentially taking one of the inputs IN1P, IN1N, IN2P... etc. and routing the RLD out of it to bias the body. Advantage being, you do not need to have a separate electrode for the RLD. Doing this will make the channel used for the RLD drive unused for conversion purposes. You will need to set the MUX register to 110 as you mention if you want to use the positive channel to output the RLD signal. You will also want to set the appropriate RLD_SENSP bit to zero for the channel.

If you want to route the RLD back around to use as a reference point for a single ended measurement, you would externally route the back around to the IN2P input pin. Then, set the mux to normal electrode and you will be able to complete your single ended measurement.

  • Hey Tony,

i want to measure the signal from the body with channel 1 (IN1P - IN1N ) and route the RLD signal out on IN2P to bias the body.

Ok additionally to the configurations i have done, i must set the RLD_SENSP to zero for channel 2.
