MSP430F2619S-HT vs dsPic Pricing Question

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP430F2619S-HT

Hi,

I currently use C28x processors for some of the low temp and high temp requirements that my company requires, but have been facing scrutiny about wanting to use the MSP430F2619S-HT for some of the high-temp/Low power applications.

The main issue of concern is around the cost per MCU, with the argument being that for a seemingly equivalent MCU/dsPic we can achieve the same temperature requirment (150C). The Msp430 is $80 while the dsPic is ~$5-$10.

I am pretty unfamiliar with the dsPics and after much googling, the main advantage I can find seems to be the low power modes and power consumption. (We are battery powered so this is a large concern of ours)

Do you guys have information that could help me convince the "nah-sayers"?

Thanks,

Derek
