ADS1248 Temperature Drift Question

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS1248

The ADS1248 has small current sources for sensor burnout detect. 0.5, 2, 10uA.  Is there any data on the temperature drift (stability) as there is for the main excitation current sources?

  • Hi James,

The precision IDAC excitation currents share some of the internal reference bias circuitry and are tested/qualified for drift and accuracy.

Unfortunately, the burnout currents are generated through a different circuit and only provide a coarse current source to detect open circuits in the front end sensor (in some applications) and are not designed for precision.  For precision measurements, the recommendation is to use the IDAC current sources whenever possible.  If a precision current source is required in this small range, the user will probably need to generate the current source with external circuitry.

    Best Regards,

    Luis
