Easy to use 16-Bit ADC

Hello :)

I'm a Student of ee in fifth Semester and ordered a ads1211 for a project.

But definately I underestimated the complexity of this IC!

I tried a lot to get it working, asked questions on the board and so on. It's like magic, sometime I get answer on the SPI bus like "0x02" or "0x08" and then I power off and on again and nothing there....

But now it's getting a bit frustrating because I would like to work on the whole project and not only on the ADC all the time.

So perhaps there is a easier to use TI ADC out there with specs like this:

- At least 16 bit

- DIP socket

- should have at least 1 ksample/sec

. SPI Interface

- Internal clock would be nice!

What do you think of  ADS7813 for my needs?

Thank you for your help and perhaps in the future I will get the ADs1211 working :D

  • Hi Florian,

You really haven't said much about what type of sensor you are using.  I'm guessing you want to have a DIP device for easier prototyping.  That really limits your choices.  The ADS1211 is a difficult device to get started with, and the ADS7813 should be easier, however they are both very different devices.  It may be a better choice to pick the type of converter that best matches the measurement you are trying to make and see if you can find a surface mount adapter to a SIP or DIP.

    Best regards,
