ECG measurement with ADS1298 Evaluation board

Hi, I'm student of KAIST SungRok Jeon. I'm trying to measure ECG with ADS1298 Evaluation board from my body, but I encountered some problems.

So, I want to ask some questions.

1. Can I measure ECG with ADS1298 Evaluation board form real human body?

2. When I do the internal test explained in '4.2 Internal Test Signals Input' page 33, My LEAD 3 signal and aVR signal is changed. I don't know why.

I have one more question. My Lead Off Status is different with User guide picture page 14. Below status is mine. Is it okay?

Hi Sungrok,

The LEADOFF status is going to be dependent on whether you have electrodes connected to the inputs or not. I would refer to the ADS1298 datasheet, ADS1298ECG-FE User's Guide as well as this app note for more information -

On the ADS1298ECG-FE the Wilson Center Terminal is routed to IN1, IN4N, IN5N, IN6N, IN7N, and IN8N on board which is why those electrodes are indicating that the lead is connected. You can review the schematic in the User's Guide.

Sungrok,

You cannot connect the ADS1298ECG-FE directly to a human. The ECG-FE lacks patient protection circuitry and is not an end solution.

I am having the same problem. can you please suggest any way to measure the ECG form human body using this kit (ADS 1298)?

Hi Saleem,

The ADS1298ECG-FE solution was not designed to directly interface with a human body. It lacks patient protection circuitry and has not been put though any medical certification tests. You need to include patient protection before connecting to a human body.

This topic has been discussed throughout the precision analog forum frequently. If you search around the forum, you will find some recommended patient protection designs discussed by others.
