DDC112 ESD protection diodes

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DDC112

In the datasheet of the DDC112 are ESD protection diodes visible to protect the input of the DDC.

(Page 9, SBAS085B - January 2000 - Revised October 2004)

What are the specifications of these ESD protection diodes?

We are specifically looking at current carrying capability.

Regards,

  • Exercising the protection devices regularly is sure to cause some level of leakage.  The ESD is meant for protection, not something we can guarantee to take large spikes without any low-level leakage. We probably don't have that type of data and it would have to be characterized. Also, in general, the input lines from the ESD cell to the integrator are purposefully not very wide as this contributes to parasitic cap on this sensitive node.

This is an old device and I am checking with design if they can produce some kind of current limit number, but maybe it is easier to see if it would be ok, if you describe the type of current you expect (intensity and duration...).

    Regards,
    Edu

  • We expect a DC current of 1.5mA for a prolonged period. (>1min)

This could be the resulting current following a single fault condition.

(A 150Vdc supply with 100kOhm resistance to the input line of the DDC)

If this fault condition occurs, the leakage and measurement accuracy are not important anymore.

We are solely interested in the current carrying capabilities after this fault condition.
