ADS1274 help me!!

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS1274, ADS1278

Hi! I'm Martin Sanchez from Argentina. I'm working on my thesis to be a Bioengineer. I decided to use the ADS1274 data converter because I have to process several data in short times and I think this converter is one of the best choices. Anyway, I have a question:

Can I use this data converter at  2000 Samples per second with a 1 MHz crystal in High resolution mode?

Please help me with that because i'm on the final stage of the circuit board design and i can't go on if a can't answer this.

Thank you for the time and attention.

  • The ADS1278 is a delta-sigma ADC.  Typically the datarates for these converters are derived from OSR value, which are fixed dividers from the modulator clock.  Therefore, based on a given clock frequency, there will only be certain datarates available.  Using the data sheet as a reference:

From Table 7, 1MHz can be a valid clock frequency provided you are within the voltage parameters shown in the table.

However using Table 3 and Table 6 to summarize the OSR and Fmod calculations (summarized in Table 8), you will achieve ~3.9kSPS data rate.  If you want to achieve exactly 2kSPS datarate, you will need to adjust your clock frequency (within the limits).
