Regarding update rate of DAC1220

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DAC1220

 Helo all,

We want to use  DAC1220 for Simulating Thermocouple in one of our projects, but our problem is that we have requirement of update rate of 1 msec or faster but in datasheet  no where it is mentioned about update rate . Can any one let me know about the update rate of this DAC.

Thanks,

Naseer

  • Naseer,

I apologize for the delayed response.  You will be limited to the time it takes to write to the DAC1220.  The maximum SCLK clock frequency is 1/10th the master clock frequency.  This means that the fastest possible SCLK is 250kHz.  For 20-bit output, you will need to send the command byte and 3 bytes for data.  4 bytes at 250kHz is about a 7.8kHz update rate so that should work for your timing.  If you use 16 bit mode you can transfer faster.

Keep in mind that there is analog settling time to consider as well.

    Best regards,

    Bob B
