ADC12D1600RB Eval Board

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADC12D1800

Hi

My customer is testing this eval board, there are some observation and enquiry

  • The Eval board is configured with default setting at 800mV. Does it affect ADC full scale range or just help to achieve better SNR?
  •  Tested with setup 1 (see attached) which is using single-ended input. The signal input is 0dBm 10MHz or 200MHz Sine wave and analyze the ADC output level in WaveVision Software. The level is high for 200MHz but not for 10MHz. (see attached file)
  • Tested with setup 2, the recommended lab test as shown in Fig 3 of Ref Board ADC12D1800 User Guide except BP Filter. Then from signal gen, I generated 0dBm 10MHz and 200MHz Sine wave and analyze the ADC output level in WaveVision Software. I found out the level is quite low compared to setup1. (see page 2 of attached)
  • Anyway, both set-ups does not reach to full range yet. There are 2 things I am wondering
    (1) Why is differential signal lower than single ended?
(According to data sheet, the input is designed for differential but the expected ADC for differential should be higher than that for single-ended.)
    (2) Why Level for Higher Freq is larger than Level for Low Freq?

  • Hi Ivan

I couldn't see any attachment in your post. Can you try to re-attach the document showing the setups.

For setup 1, is the input signal AC coupled? Which input connector (I+, I-, Q+ or Q-) is it connected to? What is connected to the other input of that pair?

For setup 2, which balun board are you using? If it is the WB-BB (wideband balun board) it should work OK for 10 MHz and 200 MHz. The LD-BB (low distortion balun board) is only designed to work down to 400 MHz or so. If you used that one the low signal levels are not surprising.

    Best regards,
