Connecting the AFE7225EVM and TSW1400EVM

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AFE7225

I'd like to connect both the ADC and DAC portions of the AFE7225EVM to the TSW1400EVM for evaluation and testing, but I can't find any information on the correct cabling to use. From what I have been told, a physical snap together type connection can be made between one side of the board, but this means I will need a cable to enable the other half of the functionality.

The connectors are made by Samtec but no one over there seems to be able to tell me which cable to use, and my calls to TI support haven't yielded any answers either. Has anyone else been able to connect up these two evaluation boards, and if so, how did you do it?

  • Hi,

You don't need any cable between AFE7225EVM and TSW1400. TSW1400 has ADC/DAC interface and shares one HSDC Pro (GUI of TSW1400), which means simultaneous pattern generation & capture cannot be done. But you can use loop-back function of AFE722x device. For the DAC interface, J15 of AFE7225EVM is connected to J4 (DAC Interface) of TSW1400, and for the ADC interface, J14 of AFE7225EVM is connected to J3 (ADC interface) of TSW1400.

    Thanks,

    KW

  • Thanks for the quick reply KW. Would simultaneous connections be possible using two separate boards, say the TSW1405EVM for the data capture and the TSW1406EVM for pattern generation? Or would we need a more custom solution for this type of setup?

  • Hi, Blake

TSW1400/05/06 share HSDC Pro (TSW1400 GUI) with common mini-USB interface. HSDC Pro can detect only one among those three physical interface. So, data transmission OR capture can be done at a time, not simultaneously. For this test, loop-back function has been added to this device.Other than this, you can refer to FMC30RF (http://www.4dsp.com/FMC30RF.php) which is a module by 4DSP. With this, you can evaluate TX & RX at the same time.

    Thanks,

    KW

  • Hi,

The simultaneous evaluation of DAC and ADC in AFE7225EVM can be done with two PCs to access TSW1405 (RX) and TSW1406 (TX) separately. I just verified this from bench test. Logically, this should work because RX & TX path of AFE7225 run independently with two different PC.

    Thanks,
