Inquiry regarding power down current on ADS8320

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS8320

Hello, all

Now we are evaluating ADS8320EB, then would like to know the power down current on this device.

Please see the comment below, and feedback us with your comment.

Here is our measured circuit for power down current.

In case applying 5V, the measured power down current was raised to 45uA.

(Datasheet describes this is only 3uA as maximum)

We assume that the hardware configuration to measure this is not correct.

Please let us clarify which point should be modified to measure correct power down current.

We thank you in advance for your information.

Best regards,

  • Hello Okui-san,

Would it be possible to see the schematic of the hardware setup? For privacy, it can be sent by a conversation. To start a conversation, go to my profile and click “start conversation”.

Also, could you answer the following questions:

    1) Is /CS high while the current is measured?

    2) Is Dclock idle while the current is measured?

    3) Is the supply a low impedance source? Is there a large resistor between the supply and the Vcc pin?

    4) What equipment is used to measure the current?

    6) Is the PCB clean? Was the flux cleaned after the device was soldered?

As a simple experiment, could the ADS8320 be removed from the board? This is to make sure that the additional current is not board leakage.

    Thank you,
    Rafael

  • Hello, Ordonez-san,

    Thank you for your reply.

    With regard to this inquiry, I missed some information on datasheet, which is described as;

---the ADS8320 is in power-down mode under two conditions:
when the conversion is complete and whenever
/CS is HIGH (as shown in Figure 3).---

We could see correct power down current, when measuring current with /CS is HIGH after conversion is completed.

    Best regards,
