TSW1400EVM and ADS5282EVM interface

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS5282EVM, ADS5282

Dear TI,

Currently, I own the TSW1400EVM and would like to interface it with my ADC module which is ADS5282EVM. I got them for some time but this is the very first time I try to use them both. I have tried to follow the examples in the User's Guides. I already installed the High Speed Data Converter Pro (v 2.10.01 from slwc107e.zip) and followed an example on page 32 of the SLWU079B.pdf.

Before trying to capture the signal, the ADS5282EVM is reset (by using TI ADC SPI Interface GUI). After running the HSDC GUI, I can connect to the TSW1400EVM board and the ADC firmware can be downloaded successfully (by choosing ADS5281-82 in the drop down tap, and the D1 LED is lit). The problem is that the USER_LED5 is not lit (the ONLY LED that is supposed to be off is USER_LED4, but they both are off for me). Once I press the Capture button on the HSDC GUI, it takes some time until the error message pops up saying "Read DDR to file TIMED_OUT_ERROR Time Out error".

I am not sure what happens to the board(s). Is there anything wrong with the 1GB DDR RAM on the TSW1400EVM? I have tried this several times and still does not work. Please suggest me what I should do.

Thank you very much.

  • Hi,

After powering on ADS528xEVM, all the USER_LEDs are supposed to be turned on except USER_LED4 (D6). From your setup, USER_LED5 (D7) is off, not USER_LED3 (D5)?

Are you providing 5V to J1 and GND to J2? With default mode, you don't have to supply 1.8/3.3V on ADS528xEVM.

    Thanks,

    KW

  • Hi KW,.

Thanks for the reply. Both of my USER_LED4 (D6) and USER_LED5 (D7) are off after I download the firmware to TSW1400. Also, I provide +5V to J1 and GND to J2 of the ADS5282, not 1.8V or 3.3V.

In the setup, I already turned the power of both tsw1400 and ads5282 on before opening HSDC GUI. Then I connected the GUI to tsw1400 and downloaded firmware to it. Do I need to turn the ADS5282 on after I download the firmware to TSW1400?

Many thanks and look forward to receiving your advice again.

    RR

  • Hello KW,

I have tried the setup again several times but it does not work. The USER_LED5 (D7) is still off. I carefully check the 5V supply of the ads5282 and the communication between HSDC Pro and tsw1400. They are ok. I also try the setup with the new version of HSDC Pro (v2.20) hoping it would be better. But I still get the same result.

Do you have any updates on this error? Could you please check or suggest again?

    Thank you very much.

    RR

  • Hi,

This rarely happens but I am gathering any info regarding this issue. I'll update you soon.

    Thanks,

    KW

  • Hi,

Can you please pull-off & put SDRAM back on TSW1400? I duplicated this issue. Without SDRAM, USER_LED5 (D7) is not lit. It might be loose connection issue of SDRAM memory on TSW1400.

    Thanks,

    KW

  • Dear KW,

Thanks very much for the guide. Please see the pictures I captured from the setup today.

The error still remains even though I have tried it several times, including checking the power supply and function generator. I do not know if it is a tsw1400's SDRAM connector problem or something else. Do you think the problem might come from the board itself, the setup, or the ads5282 board ? I will also try to contact local TI representative about this issue as well.

    Thanks again for your help.

    RR

  • Hi,

Your setup looks ok and TSW1400 should work. USER_LED5(D7) should be lit up after downloading firmware regardless ADS528xEVM status. Please contact local sales team to check whether another TSW1400 is available. If you need help from my side, please send me an email, k-nam@ti.com.

    Thanks,

    KW

  • Hello KW,

Thanks again very much for the reply. I have already contacted TI's local representative and I hope they can help me solve this issue. I will keep you updated on this.

    Regards,

    RR
