the electrodes switch in front of ADS1299

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS1299

Hi everyone,

suppose there are 8 electrodes, and   I want to record the signal between the two electrodes from the eight . Can I use  analog switch chip to switch the electrodes? will the noise of  the analog switch submerge the EEG signal? what method do you use?

By the way, to ADS1299 , if I just want to use two channels, is the two channels should be set to channel 1 and channel 2? not any two channels ?

  • Hi,

if you want to record EEG from eight electrodes (all eight electrodes are connected to the INP inputs of the ADS1299 IC), then you must connected all eight INM inputs of the ADS1299 in the same point called reference electrode. With this setup you don't need analog switch in front of the ADS1299. You can simply calculate difference of the every electrode on the MCU. This type of the recording are called single ended EEG recordings and it is common in the clinical practice.
