When using a AMC7823 in direct mode, is it possiible to retrigger it when it is already in an ADC converstion?

I've talked with design, and according to their analysis, any additional triggers executed during conversions will be ignored. To clarify, these triggers will be ignored as long as they meet the below conditions.
Both cases are for Direct Mode:
1) External Trigger & ECNVT = 1, CMODE =0/1
Any additional external triggers that come before ADC data ready will be ignored.
2) Internal Trigger & ECNVT =0, CMODE=0
If the ADC control register write does not change the polarity of the CMODE bit, then any additional internal triggers that come before ADC data ready will be ignored.
