WAVEVISIO5 (WV5Setup5.0.6.465_HS_7) - Failure with ADC08D1520RB

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: WAVEVISION5, ADC10D1000, ADC08D1520

Hello,

I just unboxed the ADC08D1520RB and did everything according to the manual.

Unfortunately I was unable to get the WV software to recognise the board. The driver was installed correctly and the device is recognised correctly in the WIndows XP (sp3) Device Manager. When I fire up everything with the proposed order the WV cannot find any hardware with the Enum message popping up.

I have found out in other responses in this forum that it might be related to the WV version used. I am aware that there was a pre-release version that did not work with all the boards BUT the version I installed (in the post title) even though not described as beta it does say on the splash-screen "Pre-Release".

Can you guys provide me with  a working version of the software.

Regards,

Evros

  • Hi Evros,

Did you install WaveVision5 from the CD or the TI website?

Regarding the driver installation of the board, would you please send a screen shot of how the Device Manager window looks?  Depending on whether the drivers for XP or Win 7 are installed, the board appears differently in the Device Manager, so I want to check whether that is the issue.

    Kind regards,

    Marjorie

  • Hello Marjorie, Sorry for the late reply i thought I have the email alert turned on. We got the evaluation kit from Mouser in the UK and there was no CD inside the box.

This is how the Device Manager looks like:

    Thanks in advance.

  • Hi,

Sorry for a delay in response.  I need to confirm a detail and can respond to you tomorrow.

    Kind regards,

    Marjorie

  • Hi,

We just fired up this board on an XP machine and the Device Manager looks like yours, so that does not appear to be the problem.  Also, this was done using the WaveVision5 from ti.com.  Do you still have the issue or were you able to resolve things by now?

    Kind regards,

    Marjorie

  • Hello Marjorie,

    Thanks for your help.

No I was not able to resolve this issue. I have ordered a JTAG cable so I can load my own code on the board which is the goal. I still need to get some preliminary data through WaveVision.

What I am going to do is give it a try with Windows 7 if I can find a machine.

    Any more ideas ?

    Evros.

PS: Hello Marjorie, I just noticed and verified that in the device manager (also see above) the device is registered as ADC10D1000 while the actual board is ADC08D1520. Is that supposed to happen ?

PS: I gave it a try on a Win 7 machine. The moment I plugged in the board (ADC08D1520) the hardware wizard recognised 2 devices. Both of the device disappeared when I disconnected the device from the USB port. One of them I was able to install as ADC10D1000. The other was not recognisable under any of the listed TI devices (WV5, EV's, etc....).  I executed WV5.exe and then the board was correctly recognised and the bit-stream was loaded on the FPGA.

Going back to my WinXP machine I did everything as before. Only one device recognised (unlike Win7) like before (ADC10D1000). Fired up WV5, everything was working. This was strange. Removed/Reinstalled everything, reset the board - still working.

End result - the board is working and I have no idea why.

Can you confirm a glitch with the board that might save me a lot of time in the near future when developing my own applications Marjorie ?

    Thanks again.

    Evros.

  • Hi Evros

To avoid needing a new PID every time we create a new ADC board, we group them in families. This family has VID 0400h and PID 200Fh. Once the base driver (identified as ADC10D1000) loads, additional ID information is read from the EEPROM on-board. This identifies the specific board within the family so the Wavevision 5 software can load the appropriate configuration script, firmware and bit files.

I don't know of any specific glitch or issues with the driver or board software. I did double check behavior when connecting. I only see one device when I connect this board to Win XP or Win 7 machines. Are you using the standard Device Manager tool to view devices being connected, or some other tool?

I know that sometimes we have seen issues if the board is connected to the PC before and/or left connected while the Wavevision5 software package is being installed. It is always best to install supporting software first, before connecting any USB devices. Other than that we have not seen or heard of any issues.

    I hope this is helpful.

    Best regards,

    Jim B

  • Hello Jim,

Thank you for replying. Seems to be working fine.

I have some other questions that will come at a later time and at a different thread.

I will mark this thread as closed.

    Regards to your team.
