Synchronizing the one ADS1248 with another

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS1248

We have two ADS1248 converters in our system.  One is reading the voltage across a temperature sensitive resistor, while another is measuring the current through it (by measuring the voltage on a current sense resistor).

Since the resistance changes with time and temperature, we want to read the voltage and current simultaneously in order to ensure that they are sampled from the same point in time.

We are using the "sync" command; but the data ready signals from the two converters do not stay synchronized.  They may start synchronized; but there is a time drift between them, as if the two converters have a slightly different sampling rate.

  • Hi Chris,

Yes, there will be differences based on the internal oscillator initial frequency and drift.  One way of getting around this is to use a common clock source connected to the external CLK pin instead of the internal clock.  In this way both devices will be/stay synchronized as they use the same clock source.

    Best regards,
