Hello,

I am interetsted to buy DAC161S997EVM, but I want to know these. Please let me know kindly. I ned to buy this soon.

 Is the current coming out differential or single ended?

 Is this device powered via USB? 

 How do I program the DAC for the current to come out? Do I need a data pattern generator?

 Can it output a differential current 1kHZ 10 microAmp peak sine wave?

    Hello Golam.

    The DAC161S997 is used 4-20mA applications; these applications use the output current to represent some measurement (such as temperature). I would recommend looking up '4-20mA loops' to understand them better; generally the usage for these types of devices is not as an arbitrary signal source. There is also at least a 4mA DC current on the output.

    The DAC161S997EVM includes a connection to a loop source. The loop+ current must equal the loop-; the DAC161S997 controls the current through the loop to the programmed value. A voltage of perhaps 20V is applied between loop+ and loop-; this is used to power up the DAC161S997.

    While there is a USB interface on the DAC161S997EVM, it is used to program the DAC151S997 output current (the current on loop+ and loop-). You can download a Windows based control program to set the DAC161S997 loop current.
