High Speed ADC SPI Programming Tool

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: HSADC-SPI-UTILITY, ADS5282, ADS5282EVM

Hi,

I recently got the ADS5282 EVM without the CD. I downloaded the ADC SPI software from: http://www.ti.com/tool/hsadc-spi-utility

But instead of installing the TI ADC SPI interface driver it installs a USB serial driver and I get a error: FT_StepBitMode or something like this.

Where can I find the TI ADC SPI interface driver? Or is this related to something else?

  • Hi,

What Windows operating system are you using?  That SPI tool still installs drivers for Windows XP and is not Windows7 compatible.  If you are using Windows7, then we would need to get to you a set of instructions to install the Windows7 drivers for the FT245 USB device that is on that EVM.

    Regards,

    Richard P.

  • I am using Windows Vista. I would be very thankful if you can give me the instructions.

    Thanks,

    Michel

  • Hi,

I do not have instructions for updating the drivers for the FT245 USB chip on the EVM for Vista.

I have instructions for getting the latest Windows drivers from the FT web site and then installing them on a Windows 7 machine.  I would expect that the latest drivers from FT would be backwards compatible to Vista, as I think they can also be used on an XP machine.  But there is more to it than that.  The USB chip for the ADS5282EVM was programmed with a text string that the GUI is looking for as "TI ADC SPI Interface".  Apparently now the latest Windows OS looks for a different field in the USB chip programming to identify what the device is, and that has to be dealt with and the Windows7 instructions deals with it.

But i do not have a Vista PC accessible to me to even begin to try the instructions on a PC like yours, so I don't know if you will be able to reconcile the instructions to your PC.  But the instructions for Windows7 are attached.

    Regards,

    Richard P.

  • Hi, it is not working on Vista. I followed the instructions. It is slightly different then described, in the way that the driver installed by himself, after that I wanted to update the driver with the one from FTDI, I unchecked "load VCP" and reinstalled the software but it is not working.
