Hello,

I'm a student trying to learn to about medical device development and embedded systems.

I'm interested in buying the AFE4400SPO2EVM and interfacing it with a reflective sensor for use on the forehead or wrist.

If I use something like the NJL5501R or design a reflective sensor myself, is it possible to interface it with the AFE4400SPO2EVM? What would be the general approach?

Hello,

Yes it is possible to interface the NJL sensor with the AFE4400SPO2EVM.

Please follow the following E2E post on the configuration of NJL5501R with AFE4400 / AFE4490.

Thanks! That's what I was looking for.

Another question...I'm a student, so this is a learning process for me. I was wondering, if I want to use a AFE4400 chip directly for a simple pulse oximeter, does that require a lot of work in terms of writing drivers and such to properly configure the AFE4400 and interface it with an MCU? I have an Cortex M3 dev board that I'd be interested in using if possible.

Mohammad,

If you are starting from ground zero, it will take significant effort to building a simple pulse oximeter. The AFE4400EVM kit will help you configure AFE4400. That's relatively easy. You would then need to write software for interfacing AFE4400 to your MCU and algorthms to compute SPO2. It's been done before, so it's possible.
