AFE4490EVM + RED part only

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AFE4490

Hello,

I have the AFE4490EVM board and I use it to get the AFE register configuration for our board.

Is there a way to use only the red light with the AFE4490? The goal is to reduce the current by avoiding to supply the IR led and to convert the IR data and ambient.

Or do you have any suggestion of AFE4490 register values to use the RED part only?

Best regards

Mich

  • Hi Mich,

You can disable the IR LED and conversions by writing a value that is outside of the PRPCOUNT register, or you may write the start count > the end count. The relevant registers are:

    • LED1LEDSTC: LED1 LED Start Count Register (Address = 09h, Reset Value = 0000h)
    • LED1LEDENDC: LED1 LED End Count Register (Address = 0Ah, Reset Value = 0000h)
    • LED1STC: Sample LED1 Start Count Register (Address = 07h, Reset Value = 0000h)
    • LED1ENDC: Sample LED1 End Count (Address = 08h, Reset Value = 0000h)
    • ALED1STC: Sample Ambient LED1 Start Count Register (Address = 0Bh, Reset Value = 0000h)
    • ALED1ENDC: Sample Ambient LED1 End Count Register (Address = 0Ch, Reset Value = 0000h)
    • LED1CONVST: LED1 Convert Start Count Register (Address = 11h, Reset Value = 0000h)
    • LED1CONVEND: LED1 Convert End Count Register (Address = 12h, Reset Value = 0000h)
    • ALED1CONVST: LED1 Ambient Convert Start Count Register (Address = 13h, Reset Value = 0000h)
    • ALED1CONVEND: LED1 Ambient Convert End Count Register (Address = 14h, Reset Value = 0000h)

Let me know if you have any more questions.

  • Mich,

By the way, I have verified this myself by setting all of the relevant registers (listed in my prior post) to 0xFFFF as well as, in the other case, setting the start count to 0x0002 and the end count to 0x0001. Here is a screen shot if my resulting waveform:
