Interfacing of Insulogix Hydrogen Monitor with 7 Segment LED Display.

Hi,

I have designed a system for hydrogen Gas Monitoring from the transformer. The tool I am using is from a Company Called Weidmann and its called the Insulogix Hydrogen Monitor. This gives a direct 4-20 mA output. Can I Interface it to a display and display data for each range of 4-20 mA.

Eg. For 4 mA Output the display should show 25 ppm of Gas in the display.

For 4.1 mA Output the display should show 50 ppm of Gas in the display.

For 20 mA output the display should show 25000 ppm of Gas in the display.

  • Hi Sabyasachi,

Welcome to the forum!  If I'm looking at the correct device, there appears to also be a digital output besides the analog 4-20mA output.  To properly display the 4-20mA output, you will need to convert  the current to a voltage, and then use an analog to digital converter to convert the voltage to a digital reading that can be processed to represent the various display readings you require.  Depending on the resolutiion you require you may need and external ADC, a microcontroller (such as an MSP430) and an LCD.  You may only need an MSP430 that has a built-in ADC, and the LCD.  You can build a system using the MSP430 Launchpad and BoosterPacks with information available at:

  • Hi Bob B,

Thank you for your reply. The information which yoy gave is really helpful. I wanted to know one more thing.

    1) How can I program the micro controller for the different values of the current ( in this case converted to voltage).

    2) Will this board run on the 0-5 V DC external?

Thank you so much, Have a nice day.

  • Hi Sabyasachi,

The LaunchPad products are outside my area of support (precision data converters), so you will need to contact the appropriate forum.

    Best regards,
