TVP5151 vs TVP5150AM1

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TVP5150AM1, TVP5151, TVP5150

Our understanding based on what we've read online and in the forums is that TVP5151 is a 'better' version of TVP5150AM1, in the sense that 5151 has some bug fixes on top of TVP5150.

Looking at the product availability matrix, out of 8 possible part numbers for TVP5151, only the BGA Commercial part is marked as ACTIVE, ALL other parts are marked NRND.

However, for TVP5150AM1, all parts appear to be ACTIVE except one (TVP5150AM1IPBSRQ).

Is TVP5150AM1 the recommended part for all new designs? We'll be using an FPGA to read the data out of the decoder. Is there anything to watch out for? (For example, I've seen notes on the forums about a 'ROM patch')...

Regards,

  • The only device which is recommended and supported for new designs is the TVP5150AM1.

Even the TVP5151ZQCR should be NRND since support is now extremely limited.

One big difference with the TVP5151 to the TVP5150 is the IO voltage levels.

Patch code is available for some devices but is not critical and its use is dependent on whether you need the feature/improvement that the specific patch code addresses.

Review the device/patch specific release notes here for details of what each patch revision actually addresses.
