IOVDD and DVDD in ADS1278 can tie together to 3.3V?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS1278

From ADS1278 datasheet

"The IOVDD and DVDD power supplies available directly, bypassing the internal digital filter.

can be tied together if desired (+1.8V)."

But in absolute maximun rating

DVDD, IOVDD to DGND   0.3 to +3.6 V

Is it possible to tie these two pins together in 3.3V? Why ti write specific value +1.8V in the datasheet?

thank you.

  • Like an device, the ABS MAX RATINGS are determines so that the device should not be damaged (although as stated in the note in the datasheet, continuous operation near the limits could cause problems).  The abs max values are typically a little wider than the recommended voltages to provide some tolerance and "head-room" in the design for transients, etc during power-up or other conditions.

Operation of the devices outside the RECOMMENDED limits show in the Electrical Characteristics table, is not recommended.

Therefore, to answer you question, DVDD shouldn't be 3.3V (see datasheet page 5 for actual limits)
