Performance Degradation by using Breakout Boards

Hello,

I recently purchased several AFE4490 devices for use in my university project. I'm planning on using a QFN breakout board for rapid prototyping of the AFE4490 before utilizing a custom PCB.

Would using such a breakout board result in any degradation or malfunction in performance?

Hi Mohammad,

Layout does impact performance, specifically on the INN/INP and TXN/TXP lines. It is recommended you follow the EVM layout for best performance.

Gui is absolutely right. Make sure the input pins and sensor are as close as possible.

One follow up question:

I am not using an MSP430 in my design, however, can I re-use the AFE4490 schematic from the AFE4490SPO2EVM? I am specifically referring to the schematic found on page 46 of the EVM user guide.

Mohammad,

You can use our EVM schematic as a reference design. If you choose to use a different microcontroller, make sure you follow the datasheet specifications for all the digital I/O lines.
