Unplug measurement AFE4490EVM

Hey, guys!
I just played around with the AFE4490SPO2 EVM with the GUI with various situation.

I also tried unplug my pulse oximetry from the DB9 connector from the AFE4490SPO2 EVM board, and observed

that the GUI will react by stop measuring the SPO2, but keep measuring the heart rate.

So i wonder how it is still able to measure heart rate?
I was expecting like it will be nothing instead of continuous measurement.

can anyone explain me this?

  • Hi Stella,

The algorithm works by measuring local peaks to calculate the heart rate. The algorithm expects a valid input, so when you remove it, it continues to count the peaks of whatever noise it is seeing. The SPO2, however, is a ratiometric measurement and the algorithm is written to stop if the value goes below 85.

    Regards,
