All:

The ADS1291/1292/1292R datasheet [SBAS502B] shows a 216 bit burst for RDATA Usage in Figure 44. However, earlier in the document Figure 34 shows a 72 bit burst for DOUT.

Is Figure 34 valid for both RDATA and RDATAC, or is it valid for only RDATAC?

Figure 44 should indicate the DOUT should be STATUS+2-channel Data (3 x 24bits = 72 bits). This is an error in the datasheet.
The frame size should be the same for RDATA and RDATAC.

We can't say for sure, but would not anticipate in the near future. We are currently undergoing a lot of changes in the datasheet format/data, so it may get incorporated at that time.
