DAC38J82 DAC part Maximum output frequency

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DAC38J82

Hi,

I am planning to use DAC38J82-2.5 part in my design.

What will be the maximum DAC output frequency.  In data sheet in table the information about 230MHz output frequency has been given & in graph till 500MHz the information is given.

Kindly let me know what is the maximum output frequency we can achieve by the above DAC part.

Regards

Soumya

  • Hi Soumya,

The DAC38J82 can output signals in the entire first Nyquist zone by using the complex mixer. The edge of the first Nyquist zone is based on the DAC output sampling rate (Fdata * Interpolation). So at 2.5 Gsps, the maximum output frequency is 1.25 GHz.

However, outputting a signal near the edge of the Nyquist zone is generally not realistic from a system perspective. There will be a DAC image sitting at FDAC - IF, so for a 1.25 GHz output the image would be sitting right next to the desired signal. This makes operation at 1.25 GHz unreasonable. The maximum output frequency in a real application will depend on how good the filtering is at the DAC output to remove the DAC images.
