ADS129x / 119x Pin Compatibility

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS1294, ADS1298

Hello,

first post here - I've searched both forums and datasheets but couldn't find an answer.

I understand from the datasheet that the ADS1294/1296/1298 devices are pin compatible, and unused channels should be connected to AVDD (not GND?).

Are the 1194 devices also pin compatible? Are there significant differences in registers?

What I ultimately want to determine is this: if I create a board for the ADS1298 plus an MCU, will I be able to substitute for any of the above devices with no hardware and minor firmware changes?

  • Hello Martin,

Thanks for your interest in the ADS1x9x family and welcome to the E2E forums!

Yes, the ADS1294/6/8 share the same footprint and pinout, both in the TQFP and BGA packages.

Regarding their features, the main difference that you will see is that the Respiration functions are only available in the 24-bit devices (ADS129xR). Consequently, the RESP registers are not used in the ADS119x devices.

Otherwise, the channel settings and ADC features are the same in both devices. You may want to adjust some of your component values such that you can achieve the desired performance and resolution, but I would not expect any major hardware changes when changing between the 16-bit and the 24-bit devices.

    Best Regards,

  • Thanks Ryan, that's exactly the information I needed.

    best,

    Martin
