Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADC12J4000EVM, ADC12J4000

Hi,

I have just received the boards ADC12J4000EVM + TSW14J56EVM which I have purchased.

When I program ADC with ADC12j4000evm gui, and then use High speed data converter pro to capture data after downloading firmware, this error message appear on the screen;(DATA_READ_FAILED) ,otherwise the status of LEDs on the board aren't true.

Also We would like to do our own design based on this combination. In particular, we would like to connect an Arria V GZ Altera FPGA to the ADC via the JESD204B interface. Would TI be able to send me the FPGA Verilog or VHDL design files that are used for the evaluation kit, in order to serve as a reference design?

Thanks,

somad

  • Somad,

    The firmware can be downloaded from this link:

    What are the status of the LED's on the TSW14J56? Are you using on-board clocking for the ADC? If so, what sampling frequency are you selecting? What mode are you running the ADC in (bypass, dec-10, ect...)? What samplging rate are you entering in HSDC Pro? What version of HSDC Pro are you using?

    Regards,

    Jim

  • Hi Jim

    The status of LED's after downloading firmware:

    D1=ON

    D2=OFF

    D3=ON

    D4=ON

    D5=OFF

    D6=ON

    D7=ON

    D8=OFF

    FPGA-DONE =ON

    - ADC12j400EVM v1.3

    -#clock source= on-board

    -#Fs=3760Msps

    - Bypass Mode-DDR

    -Update temperatures key NOT works

    -High speed data converter pro v2.7

    -ADc12j4000 BYPASS

    -ADC output data rate=3760M

  • Somad,

    D2 and D4 should be blinking after the ADC and TSW14J56 are programmed. If not, the clocks from the ADC are not present, which usually means the ADC EVM was not programmed properly. Please replace the attached file with the same one were the the ADC GUI is installed under the Configuration files folder and give this a try. I just tried your setup with the hardware and everything worked fine. There has been an issue with the original config file in the past when sampling above 3100MSPS.

  • Jim

    I did it.

    Unfortunately it not works.

    Can I test lm04828's output? how can I be certain of it's true operation?

    where is the problem, in adc12j4000 EVM or tsw14j56 EVM?

    thanks,

    Somad

  • Somad,

    What is the status of the TSW14J56 LED's? What are the status of the LED's labeled STATUS 1 and STATUS 2 on the ADC board? If the ADC board is running, if you provide an input signal at 450MHz around -3dBM or more, LED OR_T1 will illuminate (over range indicator 1). If you increase power to 0dBM or more, OR_T0 will illuminate. This test should confirm the operation condition of the ADC. Have you tried running at 3100MSPS?

    Regards,

    Jim

  • Hi, Jim

    I tested the ADC board with this input signal, the result is as follows:(with 3760M rate)

    1-input signal 450MHz and the power of input signal <-4dBM      ===> OR_T1 and OR_T0  was off

    2-input signal 450MHz in the range of -4dBM to -1 dBM              ===> OR_T1   illuminated  , OR_T0  was off

    3-input signal 450MHz and the power of input signal>-1dBM      ===> OR_T1   illuminated  , OR_T0  illuminated

    ِDurring these tests ,status1 LED and status2 LED located on the ADC board was off.

    Status of LEDs on the TSW14j56 is as follow:

    D1=ON

    D2=OFF

    D3=ON

    D4=ON

    D5=OFF

    D6=ON

    D7=ON

    D8=OFF

    NOTE: I tried 3100MSPS, the result is same as 3760MSPS

    thanks

  • Somad,

    It appears the ADC is programmed but the DDR3 interface on the TSW14J56 is failing. Make sure JP3 has the shunt installed between pins 1-2. We had a few boards that shipped accidently with this shunt only connected to pin 1, which would cause the DDR3 interface to fail. The board needs to have D6 and D7 off and D8 on after the FPGA is programmed. If this does not fix your problem, send me an address I can send a new board to and we will provide a shipping address and FedEx account number for you to ship the bad board to.

    Regards,c
