Hello,

I'm considering buying AFE4403 Watch EVM (for research), however I would like to know a little more about this kit. For example:

1) Are there any API available allowing receiving data from the connected device (USB) without GUI?

2) Does the measured data can be received by any device compatible with BLE (i.e. smartphone)? What is the format of transmitted data? Are there any code examples available?

3) Is measured signal the data directly from the ADC or are there any data processing applied?

4) Can I measure SpO2 using this kit?

5) Is it possible to add my own data processing algorithms to device's firmware (extend firmware)?

6) Is it possible to connect other modules to this kit (input/output)?

To answer your questions:

1. Please find the message communication protocol attached.

2. The watch EVM has the capability to transfer data via BLE but the current firmware does not support BLE.

3. There are no data processing done on the measured signal.

4. Yes you can implement your own SpO2 algorithm using the OSRAM SFH7050 sensor shipped with the watch kit.

5. Yes.

6. Could you explain what other modules you are referring to?

Thank you for quick answers.

Regarding 6) - I'm thinking of connecting new sensors I plan to design. So I think my question should be - are there any I/O pins (digital and ADC) available on this board that can be programmed.

Regarding 5 - What tools and hardware do I need to add functionality to EVM (jtag?, code composer?)? Are there any documentation of existing firmware available (i.e. API, how to extend firmware) and examples for BLE, SpO2 sensor? Or do I need to write my own firmware from scratch?

Hello Praveen,

I'm also interested in answers to questions (5) and (6).

I have two more question. I would like to know what tools should be used to upload and debug the firmware of the AFE4403 EVM watch? Is it similar to the LanuchPad that you offer? And I would also like to know if AFE4403 EVM watch schematics are freely available from TI?

Hello Mike,

Thank you for your enquiry about the AFE4403 Watch EVM.

Unfortunately currently we do not support the source distribution of AFE4403 Watch EVM firmware.
You can modify the AFE4403EVM firmware available at http://www.ti.com/lit/zip/slac677
To change the code, you may need to redefine digital interface port definition, SPI port declaration based on the Watch EVM schematics.
Tag Connect JTAG cable with MSP-FET debugger can be used to download and debug the firmware.
Please check with SVTronics for the EVM design database.
