ADS1232 stops working

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS1232

Hi everyone,

I am having a problem with this data converter.

I have been using this component in other project in a load cell scale and it was working well but now with a new project I am having problems.

I am using a single load cell, when start working the ADS1232 works fine and the meassure is correct but suddenly the ADS1232 stops working and I do not recieve any measure from it, I do not know why is possible it stops working. Same times it works for 10 minutes or for 30 seconds it doesn't matter the time.

Any idea about this problem?

Thanks,

Jose

  • Hi Jose,

Can you send us your schematic?  Are you using the internal oscillator or an external clock?  Make sure that PDWN pin is high and that SCLK dwells low when idle.  You should have a low impedance connection between AGND and DGND for the ADS1232 on the PCB layout.

Most likely there is a transient event to either the power supply that causes a brownout, or a transient coming in through the load cell to the analog inputs.

    Best regards,

    Bob B

  • Hi Bob,

this is the schematic, I am using an internal oscillator.

Recently I had other problem, I was measuring 3 mV in the ADC input, but the ADS1232 was giving all 0 or all 1 in DOUT and apparently the ADS1232 was working "well".

    Best regards,

    Jose

  • Hi Jose,

Generally if you see something like all 1s and 0s you may have lost your reference connection if the input voltage is valid.

One thing you might consider from your schematic is to add some resistance in series with the analog inputs.  Your schematic shows 0 ohms, so if you add some resistance you may prevent overshoot current from ESD/EMI/RFI from passing into the ADS1232.

    Best regards,
