AFE4403 vs AFE4490

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AFE4403, AFE4490, AFE4400

Hi Everyone,

I know the functionality of the two circuits is not quite the same, but leaving a side the possibility of a third LED, and from a performance point of view, is one IC any better than the other one?

And finally, form an obsolescence point of view, would you recommend to start a new design more based on the AFE4403?

Thanks in advance, with best regards:

Eric

  • Hi Eric,

AFE4490 and AFE4403 target to different applications. AFE4490 is mainly used for clinical pulse oximeter and industrial photometry applications. AFE4403 is the analog front end for optical heart rate monitoring (wearable) and low cost/homehealth pulse oximeter applications. In terms of specification, AFE4490 has the capability to drive larger LED current with higher dynamic range and wider operation temperature. AFE4403 has smaller package size, dynamic power down mode to save power and the 3rd LED support.

Based on application and the specification you need, you can select AFE4403, AFE4490 or AFE4400. All these devices are active parts. TI has no plan to obsolete any of them. Let me know if I have answered your question.

       Thanks and best regards,
