ADS1278 - Synchronisation of two devices

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS1278

Hi everybody,

I have to synchronize ten ADC-Channels as exact as possible for my applikation. Therefor i want to synchronize two ADS1278s with one common CLK-Signal. What I want to know is - when we assume that the CLK-signal and the SYNC-signal arrive without any propagation time differences - which grade of synchronisation could be received with two devices. Is the synchronism between the channels of the one device to the channels of the other one likewise exact like the synchronism of channels inside of one device?

Thanks in advance,

best regards,

Lukas R

  • Hello Lukas,

    Welcome to our forum!

The channels in one ADS1278 device are synchronized to less than 500ps of each other. However, this is different than the channel synchronization between multiple devices. For multiple devices with the same CLK input, a SYNC pulse can be shared among those devices to synchronize all of their channels to within one CLK cycle. See Figures 73 and 74 for the timing relationships in SPI and Frame-Sync format, respectively.

    Best Regards,
