ADC08D1520RB ADC Chip cannot be powered up

Hello Bridget,

By VM16ABE3 I assume you are referring to the date code on the ADC08D1520. Pin 1 is ground so the fact that you are seeing 5V doesn't make sense.. Can you verify the pin?

0) uninstall and install winUSB drive; uninstall/install WaveVision 5. 

1) Power up the board,

2) VM16ABE3 which is labeled as U17 on the board turns to be very hot. Although I visually observe VM16ABE3 has 5pins, the circuitry diagram shows 6 pins. After powering up the board without loading FPGA image, I measure voltages of the 5 pins from bottom to up: 5V, 1.77V, 0V, 0.59V, 0.15V.

3) Then starts WaveVision 5, and then

4) connect the board with PC via USB cable.

5) WaveVision reports it finds hardware and load FPGA image.

6) Then only 3 LEDs are turned on, not including, ADC_POWER LED, as showing in the photo. 

    The LED photograph comes with reflection. It looks like that many LEDs are on. In fact, there are only 3 LED(As highlighted in red) are on after FPGA image is loaded by WaveVision.

7) Click Acquisition button on WaveVision, no data shows up.

8) After a while, WaveVision reports that “WvBoardEnum call returns False”

9) The WaveVision version is  11. I also tried 8 which can reproduce the issue described. 

Hi Luke, 

About U17, the voltage of pin14 of U17 measured on my end, 0.59V, is quite different from that at yours, 1.93V. What would be the possible reason ?

Besides hardware voltage difference, we observed that WaveVision lose response right after load FPGA image.

Utility/Logging/Sent Problem Report on WaveVision do not allow me to report the problem by showing an error dialog, "an unexpected error".

Please let me know what is possible reason and how resolve it.

At my end, for

U17

pin1: EN=5V,

pin2: IN=1.77V,

pin3: GND=0V,

pin4: OUT=0.59V,

pin5: ADJ=0.15V. 

U16 

Pin3: vin = 2.52V;

pin18:SW=0V

it is 0V for both of the 2 pins.

I saw there is pin 1 sign printing on the reference board. Do you mean it is not the sign of indicating the location of pin 1?

Please refer to my reply under this topic I sent at Mon, Mar 9, 2015 at 8:29 PM. I have reported that  the voltage of pin 1 and 18 is 0V with an attached photo.

Hi Bridget,

Could you please also report pin 3 voltage? And double check pin 18, because it is connected directly to pin 2 of U17 through two inductors and you had originally reported that voltage to be 1.77V.
