interfacing ADS8332EVM to PC

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADCPRO, ADS8332

Hi,

The User's Guide of ADS8332EVM, suggests using either  "5-6K Interface EVM" or "HPA-MCU Interface" as adapters for "ADS8332EVM". Checking the User's Guide for those boards, it's not clear if it's possible to connect them to PC directly(say through USB or RS232).

Second, if I'm missing a third card here, what that should be?

Third, assuming that there is a solution, would AdcPro collect the data for me? (I have read the notes on PDK and there is no PDK version for 8332 not for those interface cards)

Last, it's not critical for me to have a real-time system (as I saw some notes earlier) and having a setup which would save the samples on a SD card even works for me. Are there less demanding solutions to run the ADS8332EVM and log the samples on a SD?

This is a benchmark for a project, so having an evaluation kit to provide us the samples with using off-the-shelf modules is our ideal.

Thanks.

  • Hi everyone,

Any hint on this post is a great help.
I need to have an ADC of 8 channels or more with 500ksps. As this is a proof of concept, I plan to collect the data on PC, so the ideal configuration/spec is an ADC which interfaces to a PC . ADS8332EVM can be the hardware meeting our requirements which also meet our budget. Unfortunately the information on TI is not clear enough for connecting this board to PC. It's been mentioned that it needs to be connected to "5-6K Interface EVM" or "HPA-MCU Interface"as adapters but it's not clear if those adapters can be connected to a PC.

    Thanks.
  • Hello Rez,

Unfortunately, currently we do not have an ADS8332EVM kit  with a GUI or ADCPro plug-in that you can directly connect to the PC.  This EVM can be interfaced with the 5-6k interface board and one of the DSP kits for firmware development  (TMS320C6000™ DSK platforms).  Please see information below.

    http://www.ti.com/tool/5-6kinterface

Other devices with 8-Channels and kits available are below.  However, the functionality is different than the ADS8332.

    -ADS8688: SAR ADC with 16 bits, 8 channels, 500 kSPS, and bipolar inputs off +5V supply. Ranges: –Bipolar: ±10.24 V, ±5.12 V, and ±2.56 V; Unipolar: 0 V to 10.24 V and 0 V to 5.12 V

-ADS8568: 16-Bit, Eight-Channel, Simultaneous Sampling, up to +/-12V bipolar input

     Best Regards,

    Luis
