ADS1292R EVM use for respiration

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS1292R, ADS1298

Hello,

I have purchased ADS1292r EVM. I wanted to know how to configure for  respiration. Also how to place the electrodes to acquire respiration signals, how many electrodes to use?. I have gone through user guides, but it is not clear.

  • Hello Srinivasan,

I'm required to tell you that the ADS1292R EVM is intended for electrical evaluation of the features of the ADS1298 in a laboratory, simulation, or development environment, that the ADS1292R EVM is not intended for direct interface with a patient, patient diagnostics, or with a defibrillator, and that the ADS1292R EVM is intended for development purposes only and is not intended to be used as all or part of an end equipment application. It is recommended that a patient simulator be used to evaluate the ADS1292R with the EVM. The simulator used for the example provided in the User's Guide is the Fluke medSim 300B simulator.

The ADS1292R comes hardware configured for respiration measurement. I would advise that you do a detailed read of the Respiration section of ADS1292R datasheet (starting at page 56). The RESP functionality of this device uses Channel 1 to convert a demodulated square wave which is used by the application to measure the change in body impedance due to respiration. Configuring the ADS1292R for respiration measurement is a matter of writing the correct values to the device control registers, especially the RESP1 and RESP2 registers.
