On ADS127478 can I use VCOM as reference?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: REF5025

Datasheet suggest to use REF5025 as voltage reference and VCOM (buffered) for amplifier com. Why can't use the same VCOM as VREF? And otherwise, I'd better use the same voltage from REF5025 as common mode in amplifier?

  • Hi Davide,

Typically, the reference voltage (VREFP) is not used to set to the common-mode of the input amplifier. ADC performance is extremely sensitive to the noise and drift of the reference.

If you can ensure that driving the common-mode of your input driver with the REF5025 does not degrade the accuracy of your reference voltage, then perhaps you can get away with it. I think it would be safest to only use the REF5025 as your ADC reference and to buffer the VCOM output for your input driver common-mode.

    Best Regards,
