DAC5682Z or. DAC3482 for AWG application

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DAC3482, DAC5682Z

Hi All,

We are trying to assess which of those two will fit better for our application.
The specifications data of of both looks pretty similar.

We need to implement Arbitrary Wavefor Generator with 2 channels analog band width 250MHz.
We wouldlike to use post analog filtering as simple as posible

DAC3482 has more upsamiling options (but I think x2 or x4 is probably what we will use) but it has sinc^-1 reconstruction which may be usefull.
Also DAC3482 looks like more recent design and DAC3482 seems to be more popular. The final solution will be based on Artix 7 FPGAs
but we made a decision to reduce the risk and to do initial evaluation using Stratix iV and TI TSW1400 pattern generator.

Any advice on those DACs?

Thanks!

Dimitar

  • Hi Dimitar,

DAC3482 has current source architecture whereas DAC5682z is a current sink DAC. DAC3482 has an NCO whereas DAC5682z does not have and NCO. Lastly the DAC3482 has more bandwidth compared to DAC5682z and as you mentioned DAC3482 is newer design. So DAC3482 would be a better option.
