ADCPro nearly unusable

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADCPRO, ADS1278, ADS1259, ADS1258

Is anyone else having such an awful time trying to get ADCPro to work? (Version 2.0.1 build 4, Windows 7)

The normal installer failed to install anything even though it appeared to complete successfully.  Once installed, it locks up every 5 minutes, requiring task manager to kill it.

I tried it with both ADS1278 and ADS1259 boards. With the 1259, it will not save data files. The Data Monitor window never displays valid data, and the block size box is frequently greyed out. The Internal/External clock source selection only works about 10% of the time.

With the 1278, I need to power cycle the board every few minutes to get it to work at all. Frequently the app locks up. The 'Open Error Log' button does nothing.

I'd be interested to know if other people are using this same version smoothly and without problems.

  • Hello Brian -
We understand that you are facing some issues in regard to the software. Based on the information in your post, we want to verify that you are using this software on a Windows 7 platform. Is that correct?
The only major items that we are aware of is with the installation of drivers on some Windows 7 machines (more specifically 64bit machines). When the software was written, the need for support of Windows XP and Windows 7 requires the software to detect the OS and we have found that it is not always done correctly.
You should be able to save data through the Data Recorder, located at the top of the software (you can reference Section 3.5.5 in the user guide). This is a separate set of controls from the larger Test Plug-in window.
Regarding the Data Monitor, when you state that it doesn't display valid data does that mean that it isn't showing any data or not the expected value? Have you changed any jumpers/settings from the default configuration? If there is data being shown, you might want to verify the EVM settings to make sure they agree with the software expected values.
  • Yes, I'm using on Win7 64 bit, with all the latest Windows updates.

The ADS1258 data not being displayed issue is resolved. One of the jumpers was set incorrectly on the board.

The other problems remain - general instability, non-responsiveness, needing to kill with task manager. Buttons that don't work. Frequent need to power cycle to the EVM and restart the program to get it to work at all. It just seems very fragile.

  • Hello Brian -

Thank you for your patience in helping us to determine the source for the software behavior that you are seeing.

    One more quick question...
Which devices are you checking out? From the above, it appears you are checking out 3 devices: ADS1278, ADS1259 and ADS1258? Is this correct?
If the problems are with the ADS1258, then some of your observations may be accurate. The plug-in for that device was the first plug-in for ADCPro and therefore it is a little different that the rest of the devices. As for the others, we haven't seen the preponderance of issues that you seem to be having. Please confirm the above question regarding the devices and we'll see if we will verify things are working correctly.

  • 1258 was a typo. I meant 1259.
