ADS1015 for current sensing

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS1015, ADS1115

My customer wants to use this part for current sensing. They will be using it in Differential mode, with the two inputs of the ADC connected to the two side of a small resistor (say 2 Ohms), and then use the internal amplifier to increase the signal level so as to maximize the usage of the DAC. Please confirm this part is ok with this kind of application?

  • Madhuri,

I don't see any problems with this type of application. The ADS1015 has an internal reference, PGA, and a wide supply range that goes all the way down to 2.0V.

The input voltage range extends from GND to VDD making it available for both high-side and low-side current sensing applications.

I think that the ADS1015 would be a good choice for current sensing applications. If more precision is needed, the 16-bit version of the part (ADS1115) is also available.
