ADS54J60 HSDC Issue

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS54J60, ADS54J60EVM

Hello,

I am trying to set up the ADS54J60EVM with the TSW14J56 capture board following the SLAU629 user guide.  It seems that HSDC is missing the .ini firmware/FPGA files that relate to the ADS54J60, in particular ADS54J60_LMF_8224.  I have included the versions of software being used.  Thanks in advance for your help!

Best,

Justin

HSDC version w/patch update : V3.00.10

ADS54JXX EVM GUI version: V1.0

  • Justin,

Makes sure you are using version 3.0 of the HSDC Pro GUI.  Next go to the "High Speed Data Converter Pro GUI" product folder on the TI website and down load the HSDC Pro GUI Updates. This is an executable that will add the missing ini files you need to your HSDC Pro GUI.

    Regards,

    Jim

  • Hi Jim,

Thanks for your response.  I followed your method (included the version info in original post) before and again after your response.  Still not updated properly.

-HSDC Pro GUI version v3.00.10 (from GUI window header when open)

-downloaded and installed patch: "HSDC Pro GUI Updates (Rev.H) 23 Feb 2015" from website

-HSDC GUI > Help > About > Supported Devices does not include any support relating to ADS54J60

    Thanks,

    Justin

  • Justin,

Try running the patch filed attached. If this does not work, copy the ini files from this attachment to the following location:

    C:\Program Files(86)\Texas Instruments\High Speed Data Converter Pro\14J56 Details\ADC files

  • Hi Jim,

Thanks for the files. Everything is up and running - looks great!

  • Hi Jim,

I would like to use an external 1GHz clock source to clock the ADS54J60 and have followed the board modification in 5.1.1 of the slau629 User Guide document. I have provided the 1 GHz clock to J6 and the 10MHz reference to J12, It states that the provided LMK configuration files will work, I assume this is the "LMK_Config_External_Clock.cfg" file? When loaded, neither the PLL Lock LED or the D6 LED illuminate. If I load another .cfg file such as the one mentioned in Section 2, Quick Start Guide - they both turn on but I get time out errors in HSDC Pro.

Could you please walk me through the correct setup? Thanks in advance for your help!

    Best,
    Justin
  • Justin,

The ADC clock source needs to have a 10MHz reference, which is usually provided in the back of the signal generator. Connect this 10MHz output to J12. Next, set the ADC clock source to the same value as one of the exisitng LMK settings. For your case, use 983.04MHz. This is required to synchronize the link. Load the config file called "LMK_Config_Onboard_983p04_MSPS.cfg. Then load the ADC config file you plan on using. This should get you running. If you do not set the ADC clock to the same value as what the LMK is using and if they are not synchronized, the SYSREF timing will be wrong and you will get the time out error on HSDC Pro. The LMK_Config_External_Clock.cfg is for when you want to use the LMK in a clock distribution mode and bypass the on-board VCO.

  • sorry my english .
i want to know : if i don't use external clock, the 10MHz reference to J12 is necessary ?
  • Weibo,

If using internal clock mode, the 10MHz reference is not required. In this case, the on-board VCXO will not be locked to any external reference but will still operate just fine.

    Jim
