Hello, I need a monostable multivibrator with an output pulse of 5ns or smaller. Is there any component which does that?
Thank you.

Hi Nerina,
Using a simple timer IC 555, you can build monostable multivibrator using RC combination to setup the time constant.
Why do you need a separate component for this? Do you have any space constraints such that you cannot use passive components to construct monostable multivibrator on board?

Hi Nerina,
Generally, RC circuit is the only one which decides the pulse width. But, it would be good if you refer the datasheet of IC555 to ensure that it supports such low precision. Else, there are certain Dual Precision Monostable Multivibrator ICs which have greater precision and can supports pulse widths in the nanosecond range. So, there would be a tossup between the two if you need to go for lower pulse widths in the future as you suggest from your first post.
Hope this helps.

Sid
