Hi,

I am currently developing a frame grabber device and will be using tvp5150 as a decoder for our ntsc camera. I am using cypress fx3 as the main controller and they have an application note where only hsync and vsync are used to decode the video stream.

My question is, could I use the same or do I have to use the AVID and FID signal to decode the video stream?

The TVP family can provide either discrete syncs (H/V/F/AVID) or embedded syncs and the decision of which to use depends entirely on your system architecture.

If your back end processor requires embedded syncs then this is what you should use. If it requires discrete syncs then that is what you should use.

If you are developing your own processing (e.g. FPGA) then use whatever suits you best.

Would it be enough to only use HSYNC and VSYNC as sync signals and disregard FID and AVID? What will happen if I disregard the two signals?

It is entirely dependent on your processor. You will need to ask the processor vendor.

The TVP can provide various signals but it needs to be configured according to your back end processor.

Hi Steve,

One more question about sync signals.

Is there a way to invert the polarity of HSYNC and VSYNC? The decoded signal is at active high polarity and my requirement is active low polarity.
