ADC128S102 analog/digital isolation

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADC128S102

hello, I'm interested in using the ADC128S102.  I see that there are separate power rails for analog and digital circuitry.  Does that imply that there is isolation between the analog and digital circuitry? If I power the analog side with 5V/GND1 and power the digital side with 3.3V/GND2, are the analog inputs completely isolated from the digital side?  if yes, how is it done?

thanks.

  • Hi Mike,

There is no "isolation" between the supplies. The Analog and Digital grounds are separated to minimize noise - but they still need to be within millivolts of each other. Internally, the grounds are connected at strategic points.

The positive supplies power separate sections of the circuit, and are somewhat isolated, but they must share the same ground return.

So, no, you cannot use it as an isolated A/D...you may let the Magic Smoke out if you do...

    Regards,
