ADS1298RIZXGT, Do I need the whole kit in able to acquire the ECG data?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS1298

Hi,

I need an ECG circuit or IC to acquire and ECG signal for a research purpose, but problem is some people have told me that I would need to order the "EVM" kit to program it, can I use it without needing it? and If I do, are there any other alternatives that do not really need a programming kit?

Thank you.

  • Hey Thaer,

The ADS1298 is an integrated circuit in a surface-mount package. In order to use it, it will have to be soldered on a printed circuit board. If you are wondering on whether or not to use the ADS1298, I'd *highly* recommend reading the device datasheet in its entirety to understand the device and decide if it will meet your needs. (www.ti.com/.../sbas459k.pdf)

There is an EVM for this device, but its intention is to provide engineers with a way of evaluating ADC performance before making a decision to use the chip in their own design rather than serving as a development platform. If you'd like to order an EVM to evaluate the device's performance, you can order one here for USD 199: www.ti.com/.../ADS1298ECGFE-PDK

Also available at that link is the User's Guide for the board which can serve as an example schematic for when you embark on designing your own PCB.
