ADS 1278 Slow Frame Sync Period

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS1278

Hello,

I have an application which uses the ADS1278 converter with a 25MHz clock input running in high resolution mode.  According to table 8 on the datasheet the data rate will be 48.828kHz and the frame sync period should be set to 20.48uS.  However, on this application the frame sync period is set to 25uS.  I need to understand what the implications are from setting the frame sync period longer than what is prescribed by the datasheet.  Will the data from the ADS1278 be corrupted in this scenario?

Thanks,

Kerry

  • Hi Kerry,

Yes, the data will be corrupted if your frame period is too long (or too short). In High-Resolution Mode, the ADS1278 is expecting exactly 512 clock periods in each frame. It is the FSYNC pulse that sets the data rate, where the data is loaded into the output shift register (MSB first) on the FSYNC rising edge. CLK, SCLK, and FSYNC should all come from the same source and be aligned according to the Frame-Sync Timing diagram on page 9.

    Regards,
